This is too relevant to my point of view of a relationship. People seem to rush into relationships just to be in one. Couples fight and argue, they lie and distrust each other. That’s because there is no foundation in those relationships. 
Best friends know each other inside and out. They know what makes each other tick and which buttons not to press but also know their reset code (yeah lame I know). They trust and rely on each other to lend a helping hand when the other has fallen.
I’m not saying “hey date your best friend.” It’s just that much better when you’ve made your significant other your best friend. To me it’s deeper and more meaningful than “boyfriend” or “girlfriend”. And if things don’t work out, the chances that you’ll remain friends are higher. 
It kind of explains why when a couple breaks up, they rarely speak to each other except for the occasional “hello.” They weren’t really friends to begin with. Just two people set out on creating a relationship.
